To achieve bright and varied colors, decorations often include artificial colors. These have been the subject of debate regarding their safety, with some studies suggesting a possible link to behavioral changes in children, such as hyperactivity to others suggesting cancer causing potential. Commonly used artificial colours are - Red 40 (Allura Red AC), Blue 1 (Brilliant Blue FCF), Yellow 5 (Tartrazine), Yellow 6 (Sunset Yellow), Green 3 (Fast Green FCF), Red 3 (Erythrosine). Avoid products containg artificial colors as much as possible.

For decorated biscuits, choose ones with minimal added sugars and natural colorings.
